Elvy’s great-grandfather William was the son of William Henry Yost and Mary Elizabeth McDonald, whose own father was Irish. Hortense was the daughter of George F. Zeh, whose parents were German, and of Catherine Elizabeth “Katie” Scherger, whose parents were also German.

Elvy’s paternal grandmother is Marilyn Sylvia Holtsberg (the daughter of Arthur William Holtsberg and Sylvia Eleanor Jackson). Marilyn was born in Illinois. Arthur was born in Illinois, to Swedish parents, Carl Victor “Charles” Holtsberg and Hilda Eugenia Johnson. Sylvia was born in Illinois, also to Swedish parents, Victor Emil Jakobsson and Mathilda Holm.
